Another crop shot for discussion...the other day I posted a Greenfinch that I left quite a bit of extras on...here I have left loads of "space" on the right hand side...as the background looked rather nice but more importantly I liked the way the bird is looking towards the "space"...getting ready to fly out of the picture (which was what he did about a nano second later!) I like this but wonder if it is a thumbs up or down...all views welcome, good or bad...thanks

This works for me Al, and the crop is fine. I think there are a few crops to be had and this is one of them that is pleasing.
The other imo would be to crop an inch off the tree which would off set the bird more thus taking him from the centre of the image and placing him to the left more.
The other is to crop it letterbox style. Maybe not as good but it would be different.
With this said I don't see anything wrong because its sharp with good colour rendition. It also as you say has pleasing bokeh and some nice dead space with the bird looking into.
Goodie!

excellent detail and colour - going to be different and say 1 inch off the r.h. side but superbly taken
