The Palatine Hill is some 40 metres high with views of the Roman Forum on one side, and the Circus Maximus on the other. With the development of Rome and the continued embellishment of the Forum, the Palatine, due to its close proximity to the seat of power, it became 'the place to live'. Here the air quality was much better; it also had the benefit of splendid views. So it became the place for the very powerful and wealthy to build their homes.
It covers a vast area - about twice the size of the Forum - and just a fraction of Palatine is occupied by the Farnese Gardens. They were created in 1550 on the northern portion of Palatine Hill, by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese. They were the first private botanical gardens in Europe. This is just a small sample of the Gardens.

A fine view along those gardens, Trev, but they do look dry at the moment.

Looks as if those hedges need a drop or two of water, Trev - must have been very dry there (apart from in the tavernas you adjourned to afterwards)![]()
Delightful images.

Beautiful of these manicured gardens Trev, but I swear that's a Texas prickly pear cactus in v2!
