Mara
These are found in Central and Southern Argentina in pampas grassland.
Sometimes known as the Patagonian Hare this unusually large and long legged rodent resembles
a small deer. Their behaviour varies from rodent like tendencies when raising young, to that of hoofed
animals in adulthood.
Male-female pairs graze on grass and low shrubs and may be
found in groups when raising young. Unusually for rodents males and females are known to pair for life.
