It is a harsh treatment you have subjected this picture to and in the darker areas it gives an interesting effect. Unfortunately where the light areas of the ferry bleed into the sky you lose all suggestion of form and the image as a whole can't survive this.
As you have this in RAW you should find it possible to get this sort of effect and keep a feel for the shape of the vessel.

Hi Steve,
Yeah, sad to say but it doesn't work for me either. By effectively taking out the sky and water, it just looks like a totally blown shot of a ferry in mid-air. I think I'd rework this, and maybe just try a B+W conversion and see how that looks. As it is, the image is way too flat.
