...as Mother Nature does the ferns and weeds grow through the piles of slate and stones, softening the harsh edges of the cut stone.
The continuing story of the Ballachulish Slate Quarry.
Amazing where plants choose to grow. The fern looks lovely against all that slate. Moira
Nice capture. Deep
Nature fights back Dougie
Life will appear in the unlikeliest, most barren-looking spots.
The first stage of Returning to Nature. Aren't ferns one of the most ancient and primitive life-forms?
mother nature claiming back whats rightfully hers a cracker dougie nice one
Isn't nature wonderful.
Nothing beats Nature in the end, Dougie. She has a certain inevitability about her.
Like this one a lot Dougie. Good strong composition and good use of colour. Superb.
such a bold comp .
and yes dont we see this all around us. Mother nature will always be around no matter what we do
I like this a lot Dougie, the green of the fern stands out well amongst the slate which has great tones of its own
It's the colour combination of that crisp green and slate grey that works for me, as well as the textures in the slates. Super image Dougie!
Such a great contrast between the slate and the fern. Always a hope for life
The start of nature reclaiming her own, Dougie: I remember seeing a similar shot by Duncan McEwan from this area and I had always intended visiting there, but like so many places on my 'hit list' I have never managed.
The bright vibrant green sprouting from the grey slate makes an excellent contrast in both colour but also in patterns, shapes and textures.
Lovely contrast between the soft texture and vibrant colour of the fern against the cold sharpness of the slate wall Dougie.
This is absolutely brilliant!
Many Thanks for your UA Johanna, you're a star.

Very well spotted composition.
Missed this one. Lovely green against the slate, excellent image.
Complimentary shapes with contrasting colour. There's also a nice rhythm to the wall which leads you in. As others have said this is a well composed intimate landscape which works very well.
