This is another one of the fish traders in the Shindaga Fishmarket in Dubai. Like yesterdays post Ive converted it from colour to B&W, but this time using Belgikskenikske's tips on conversion via Adjust>Gradient Map (well, actually Funkeldink's tips!)
I like the image for the same reasons as yesterdays the subject, the activity, the timelessness. Apart from the Gradient Map work Ive also done a crop, a slight dodge on the second guys face and a blur on the background as per MoWizs idea/mod for the first post. I also added a black border since the image seemed a bit less defined without one. This is my first foray into borders I did it with four black rectangles. Doubtless there must be an easier way!
I did the blur by waving around a blur radius. Any tips on how I could have selected the background (PhotoShop 6.0) to blur it all en-mass would be very welcome.
Cheers..
Gav

Nice reportage style shot, like the look on the guy on the rights face. As far as a selection goes I don't really know of an easy way, they are all pretty time consuming, but for the border, just select all the image, Select-select all, then go to Edit-stroke and enter the number of pixels and colour and hit enter. Hope this makes sense.
if you are going to just add a simple border like this, the easiest way is to increase the canvas size by say 1cm on the height and width and just select the colour as black, you can als select white or use the picker to select any colour you want from the palette

To blur anything you want without making selections, you yse layers:
Open image; drag your background image to the new layer icon at the bottom of your layers pallette;you will now have a background copy; allpy the blur you want tp the copy (it all blurs); then select a layer mask by clicking the mask icon on the bottom of the same pallette, select a brush tool of the appropriate size; paint with black over the areas you dont want to be blurred (it doesnt actuall paint black, it removes the blur)
Image>flatten layers when youre done.
You need to buy a Photoshop book or check out tuturials on various sites including this one.
Mowiz way of doing the borders is the easiest, - and you can do different colours.

And another good one. The b&w really do come out better. All 3 images in the series are very good. My favorite is the 3rd one (yep, the next, I don't work chronological it seems lol).
Haven't done borders with PS yet. Most of the time I just add a dropshadow with another program just before posting. Before I used coreldraw, and what I did was making a rectangle (1, not 4), but without fill, so only the border would be visible (and then there was the possibility - think by double clicking on it - to change the thickness of the border and the color).
Suppose PS must have something alike. good luck anyway
