They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Laurence Binyon, 1914.

I've visited the war graves in Normandy. The beauty of the place and the day only added to the heartache seeing line upon line of white gravestones stretching into the distance. An experience we all should have, I think as it really brought it home in a manner never before experienced, quite how terrible the loss and sacrifice had been. Your images are beautifully and thoughtfully composed and captured, a fitting tribute indeed.

Excellent image for today... nice image. The flowers bring in more interests and 'life' into the image...

Seeing the names and ages on these markers amid the lavender is a touching image.

So many young lives lost. This is beautiful, the flowers give some individuality to the regimented head stones.
