Its a really nice shot. I looked closely at this, and from my perspective, perhaps its not whats missing, its whats there?

I see the lamp as being an intrusion for two reasons; the bottom of the shade has a very bright strip that draws the eye, and the colour the lamp has, and is on the wall is not affecting the dress, which is in daylight.

So I would pull down the edge of the lamp, and desaturate the wall and lamp a little. Then the dress can be just very slightly brighter, - dress only, and the result is in the modiification Ive uploaded.

Does this make a difference?

regards

Willie

It is the lamp that is an intrusion for me too. It competes for attention with the subject of the photograph but adds nothin god value. I am nowhere near my computer at the moment but will set a reminder to myself to have a go at a modification that deals with this later.

I think that Willie and Lynn have nailed it: though Willie's mod is better, as the lamp, duly toned down, provides a compositional element missing from Lynne's version. With a very dark and plain background, it is too stark.
