Thank you all for your supportive comments. The image was a superposition of five shots each taken at a slightly different point of focus. The combination of all five shots has a greater range of "sharp" focus than any one of the five.
The combination was made using a free download programme entitled "CZM".
I wasn't 100% happy with the combination since there appeared to be a slight misalignment of the images. This is why I finished it off with Fractalius.
