Tried to capture the softness of this Pasque Flower.
I haven't been very successful with my flowery attempts so far, so any suggestions very welcome!

I am certainly no close up specialist. If you intend the outer parts of the flower to be out of focus, fine. If not I suggest you use a smaller apperture. I actually like it the way it is. click. John

If you want to capture the softness you'll need to lose the shadows.

Try propping the flower upright and away from the background to allow the shadow to dissipate before it finds a surface. I use a menu holder like you find in cafes and the like, the ones where only an inch or so of the menu is supported. Put the stem into this and it should hold it up without getting into the picture.

You could then try just focusing on one part of the flower and using an aperture like f4 to throw the rest out of focus.

You have good feedback on how to improve the shot so I will simply say how much I like what you have done. I do feel a little more space top left would strengthen the composition (but thats personal taste I know)

Its smashing Kathy, you've got some good advice too, only one thing with this, and its a personal point, is I find it too tightly cropped at the top. You've got some lovely lighting there. K.

I think you have done a lovely job of this. A little too close to the border on the top but I like the overall presentation. Well done.

Nice shot, the top petal is a little close to the top of frame. I like the focus on the hairs. Well done.

Thank you for v. helpful feedback.
Cheryl - great idea with the menu holder, I'd totally overlooked the shadows...
Agree about the tight crop too - I really need to take a bit more care setting up shots like this.

Thanks again

Kathy Smile

Beautiful shot, captures the delicacy of this flower perfectly. Just slightly too close a crop on top but otherwise lovely.
