Thanks everyone for comments and votes.

Joan, it was the Fernandina Island eruption in the Galapagos. This was taken around 1o'clock on the morning of the 13th April this year off our boat the Cachalote (Experience trip through Exodus).

This was taken with 350D (lens at 17mm, Av, 1/60 sec, f/2.8, exp. comp. -2) converted to IR so much more red than pics taken with my 400D. Took plenty of shots in the hours approaching the island but my highest ISO being 1600 most had too much noise and camera movement for good results. Got four reasonable pics though. My Dad has a 40D so he did a bit better. We got within a mile of the island and could feel the heat on our faces.

This shot was cropped slightly and straightened in PS then I used Neat Image to deal with the worst of the noise and sharpen it a bit then Easy Thumbnails was used to resize and sharpen even more.

Cheers, Mike.

Fantastic shot Mike - very impressed. I tried to take a hand held of Stromboli from a boat at night time with very mediocre results so fully appreciate the difficulties and what an achievement your shot is.
