Taken one evening from my back garden. Decided to use this photo to test out the new software I got from my Mac (Aperture 2). So far the software passes the test, it's very easy to use and I was able to remove the power cables that were hanging across the picture without any trouble.

Dramatic shot. Can't see where the cables were! And the little bit of flare works for you. The sun is very bright and very central. Hard to tell from a jpeg if there is any tone in the centre of the sun. Could add a bit if not and you wanted to print, maybe. I think there may be a better crop. I've masked off different parts on the right with my hand, and I think maybe cropping to where that largish clump of trees reaches its highest point might be effective - just to move the sun away from the centre.
You are starting to get some good things happening with the image.
Even though it is going to break some rules (1/3 rule) - I find the darkness of the top and bottom a bit of an issue and would crop out a bit of the top sky or alternatively try to get a bit more cloud detail coming in especially in the left top part.
Try a few different crops - saving each and then play them back as a slide show to yourself - I am sure one will jump out at you.
It is all part of the learning curve - the darkroom has always been a photographers best tool.

You have just about got it - a little more fine tuning - around the sun is required but that will come as you gain more experience with your editor - hope you found our comments and tips helpful - keep on shooting
