I think you lost points for the composition with the pot very central Kate, the pot in the background is also competing for attention, a few paces to the right would have made a difference. There are some great shadow details and textures there, but the step also needs some burning applied to tone it down.

Trev.

Hi Kate, Tevbis partly correct in that the pot is central, but the plant is weighted to the left so it balances in my humble opinion. The contrast in light and dark, between textures and colours is great, and I like the shadows, so all in all a good image.

Good analysis from Trev, Kate, with some very helpful hints........I have learned from what he has said too. But still a nice capture of this small corner.

The learning curve - yes we all keep learning (Trev's comment) but so very helpful. Some very nice texture and colour on the righthand side.
Joan.

Another lovely shot Kate. Great Mediterranean feel. Don

You have a combination of great textures here Kate.
I too have read Trev's analysis which is good to take tips from.
I find the sun's refection can knock you off balance too into getting
the true picture on things.
I like the subject central but to those in the know this is not on.
However, great shot…….

Not only is this a beautifully composed photograph. It is crammed to the rafters with rustic charm and character. An image which one could easily fall in love with.

Great textured image Kate, but I hope you dont mind me say that I am sure as Trev said it would be much better without the flower pot in the bg,but I know I am far from being an expertSmile

I'm loving the lighting captured here. Some camera club judges have a thing about flowers not being in prime condition and the only reason I can see for you missing out on marks for this shot.

Enjoyed my time viewing here, smashing.

Dave.

I like this shot Kate. A bit of time and cloning could eliminate the pot in the background which could improve the image, but I like it as it is. Great detail, textures and colour.

I like the light and array of colours in this pleasing image, the textures and details are mighty fine too. I think the epzers' are a more discerning bunch than those camera club judges!Wink

a Mediterranean classic, the handpainted pot, the textures and the intense bright colours. Would have liked to see more of the grotty door.

The comp not right..
Image for the plant is to central..
DOF is too deep...
A small F stop like F2.8 would be a lot better to blur out B/G..
You got a good eye there is a nice image there it just showing it they best way possible...
