I hope everyone had a very good weekend!
I don't usually upload images of butterflies, but that doesn't mean I don't like them! A great deal of serendipity was involved in this capture, and I doubt I'll ever get another exposure quite like it.
This is a pair of giant swallowtails nectaring on Texas lantana - the one on the left is the female (dot in the third oval from the wing tip), and the one in close pursuit is the male (third oval from the wing tip is solid yellow).
I've had an interesting morning - encountered a 5-6ft snake in my back garden - realized right away from the eye/round pupil that it was non-venomous, then almost jumped when it rattled its tail! Turned out to be a Texas rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimerii), and yes, they can rattle those tails. A very beneficial guy, so I guess I'll let him stay
After that I went back inside and continued with a bit of packing. We leave for Norway next week, and I already have my own set of butterflies!
Thanks for looking,
Anne

Two for One...great shot so sharp on the Antenna...Congrats on this one Chen.
A fantastic shot of these beautiful butterflies, you've timed this one to perfection to catch two. The colours are simply glorious
Beautiful capture, Anne. Colourful, against the flowers, and the pairing is excellent.

Not an easy subject to capture.. & two! Very well done.. Has a 3D quality...wonderful shot
Having spent a lot of time watching/capturing butterflies, I am totally impressed by this image--- superb work--
Curiously, I ran into a snake to day as well- about 18 inches---He seemed stalled on our patio-- harmless garter snake! I just walked around it!
A stunning capture, Anne, beautiful detail
Hope we're going to get to see your snake! ![]()

I didn't have the camera when I saw it Trev - and by the time I got back out, it was going through a gap in the fence to the neighbor's. I do hope it returns here so I can get a photo one day.
Beautiful image, and yes lets be having a look at your snake
