Not knowing this area I have just been into Google Maps to get my orientation: I see you are looking SSE towards Ben Loyal, Dougie.
The day looks a mixture of sunny intervals and cloud cover. Nice shot with good f/g interest from by the causeway........the orange lichens/algae on the stones adds to the interest here.
That mountain outline makes such a dramatic statement on the horizon.
Ronnie.

The sky is wonderful and I also love the lichen and grassy bits in the foreground. Magnificent hills on the horizon.

Fantastic image Dougie. Just love that vista with Ben Loyal's spikey crown and those gnarly old chunks of Lewisian Gniess.

There is tremendous depth to this image Dougie. Not a lot of people can achieve that.

As Danny says...
The acid ochre tones of the lichen against the grey rock are wonderful. But from memory that's a nitrogen-loving species, so not necessarily a good air-quality indicator!

Is this Ben Loyal in the image centre? If so, had this been taken on the narrow road between Achuvoldrach and nowhere? Along the shore of Kyle Tongue?
Superbly composed with beautiful fg interest.

The distant tongues (peaks) of Ben Loyal complement the name of this gorgeous location, Dougie.

Lovely part of the world Dougie. I've been up there a few times, including working at Dounreay, but not had much chance to get anything much photographically. Must return soon.

Thanks for the UA on Cairn Holy by the way, much appreciated.

Glorious day indeed, Dougie, and replete with character.
Sorry I didn't get to this earlier: my wi-fi connection failed before Moira's did Sad
