The male of a breeding pair in downtown Chepstow ready to take up his watch on a favourite perch, these get a very easy living from the nearby pigeon population and interested onlookers often get to see nature tooth and claw at close quarters as food is taken in flight. Directly across the river this is as close as you get, several hundred feet seperates the observer from the birds making effective picture taking almost impossible. This rather poor shot was taken using an 300-800mm Sigmonster lens, one young woman tells me she is hiring a 1500mm lens for the weekend in the near future and will take some shots of these Peregrines while she has it, be interesting to see what she makes of them.
