A little Egret doing a spot of fishing near Chichester West Sussex. Just upgraded to a 7D thought I'd shot him in RAW but have Just got back from holiday so was shooting JPG to conserve card space while , Didn't realise I was still shooting JPG . A bit gutted really as could have made it a great image in RAW. Never mind I still quite like it. Hope you guys do too.

Hi Paul, a lovely Little Egret with great detail in the eye.
I find the image slightly over saturated which makes the bird take on a golden glow rather than it's natural pure white. The composition has placed the bird rather tight in the upper half of the frame, I am guessing this was your intension as to show the golden foreground.
In my mod I have desaturated he image slightly and added some canvas to the top and right hand side, then cropped some of the bottom. The highlights have been darkened as some of the bird plumage is blown.
I hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Nice mod Trev yes bird was placed intentionally, foreground to good to miss out on.
Hi Paul, Love your shot of the egret, which I get sometimes in the sea pools in front of my house (Tenerife). The image is a little bright and the water and foreground detract from a good image of the bird. I have made a mod and reduced the highlights and made further adjustments as well as cropping the image. I hope you like the mod I have done, so keep snapping away.

Nice image. It is a little over saturated I think but that's not the fault of JPG. I still cannot get it through my head why people MUSt use RAW. OK, RAW does give the best results, but the difference between RAW and a best JPG on a well set up camera on the average image is not that great.
I fail to see how this would be much better from a RAW file and I suppose we wont do either. I use JPG for all holiday shots as you do, pressing the RAW button on the 7D if the image looks really good to get a RAW and JPG - I rarely need the RAW file as the JPG is plenty good enough.
