I went to the Glendale Show today, which is held at Wooler, close to the Scottish border. Typically, I took only two pictures of beautifully kitted-out girls hurling their equally beautifully kitted-out horses over unseemly high horizontal wooden poles, but lots of candids, the best of which is reproduced above. I have two approaches to candid photography. The first is to use a really long lens and shoot from a distance, so that the subject doesn't notice you. The second (used here) is to use a really wide angle and shoot from point blank range. If you do this with the camera at chest level and trust the AE and AF to work properly, your subject still doesn't notice. Use a meaty aperture, like f11, to ensure plenty of depth of field. The trick with any candid shot is to watch your chosen subject, otherwise you end up with lots of pictures of people wandering around aimlessly. Be prepared to crop heavily.

Good one, Dave. You have thus indicated a preference for the only recognised method of photographing the inside of the lens cap of an SLR.................
