Another from our recent trip to nearby Avebury. This cottage caught my eye as we were leaving the churchyard after taking some unsuccessful shots. I assume that it was once the gravedigger that lived here as was the case for many in years gone by, but of course I could as is usually the case be wrong. If anyone knows differently I would be interested to know the truth.

Thanks as always for your comments and for looking.

Matt

ps I meant to add that I had a play with some toning effects, please tell me what you think.

Great shot Mr Brown Senior. You have probably poached your pigeon with this one. If we do go out again this Sunday, there will be even more unsucessful shots to trawl through. Hoorah.

Good composition, the gravestones seem to dominate the cottage. The toning is interesting, I think I'd like to see the grass a bit greyer.
Loved your lesser spotted woolybill comment.

This evokes the name of Thomas Hardy for me; wrong county, but only by a whisker. I can't even say why for certain, but it may have something to do with the cottage, the retreating green tone and the reminder that the grave is never far away. The colour certainly has echoes of early 20th century processes; the composition has strong verticals (gravestones, chimney stacks etc); very satisfying.

Regards
Bill

Looks good to me Matt, and the cottage was definitely worthy of a shot, like how you've composed it with the headstone in the foreground.
