Thought I would give my new log an outing.
I find these birds a bit flighty but the numbers visiting my feeders are very much on the increase.
Taken in early morning light, the bg is a big old conifer in the garden which I'm not sure works to be honest, may have to move the location of the log !
F2.8 manual mode
1/400th sec with tripod
ISO 200
EV -0.3
Centre weighted Metering.
Raw converted in CS2,slight crop, curves adjusted & border added.
The larger version is worth a glance if you can.
Thankyou for looking.

Thanks guys.
Ade,this is an image I wasn't too happy with,I played around with different things & just couldn't put my finger on it,still can't & I'm not convinced that it will remain ! I like the warmer colour you have put on the mod,I tried it & all I did was screw up the natural colour of the bird..lol I like the eye contact I have here but there's just something I'm not settled with..we'll see. Thanks for the mod though.
Janet xx
It is so unusual to see a direct head on shot like this. Maybe that is why you are not quite happy with it. But that is my favourite part. I think Ade is on to something with a little added warmth. The quality looks good. I say, keep it!
Patrick
wow what a superb shot nice crisp detail
il do a swap for my d70 if you like (no ah well worth the try ) ![]()
Hi Janet .... to be honest with you I think that, in this case anyway ... the conifer makes an excellent b/g for this bird as it contrasts so well to show the bird. A cracking shot altogether with lovely clear detail! Fantastic! Click*
Karen
Edit .... Janet ... just read your comments to Ade ...... don't pull this ... it is a cracking shot ... imo there is nothing at all wrong with this one! And 30 ohters can't all be wrong can they?
Take care xx
Thankyou all,I appreciate your comments.
Phil..still got my D70 a good one to have,still,I'm sorry,no swap !!...lol
Julie,it's so nice to see the birds so busy,it's costing me a small fortune in seed though. My garden is a great nesting site at the moment.
Gill..glad he was AP & not PA though, not a pretty sight !!
Thanks Karen,I reckon Patrick is right,it's the full on pose that possibly doesn't sit quite right with me.
Janet xx
I like it too! Great eye contact, nice colors, composition, and detail. ![]()
My thanks to you all.
Brian,,I have recently had my monitior calibrated.. by a very nice but expensive young man..the colours look very different to me now, maybe I have been over cautious on this occasion,or it could be the dark bg.I will need to take a couple of images with the log elsewhere for comparison.
My thanks to you for taking the time to compare.
Janet xx
No problem Janet I am always interested in your work.
Incidentally when I bought a new monitor before Christmas I was left thinking that things did not look the right colours compared to my previous one. A friend fine tuned it and things now seem OK, but I fully understand what you are saying.
Brian.
texture in bg is great... super shot all together!... great stuff!
I think it is a great shot: I liked the mod's warmer tones, but then I have never taken a bird so it looks great for me.The detail is good, and I like the direct gaze, almost as if he's seen you.
