I promised some 'silhouette' type images - actually I am addicted to the witching hours of dawn and dusk and the shots I get are often silhouette or what I prefer to think of as 'semi-silhouette' as I like to try and capture enough detail to make the image less flat - a problem with hard silhouettes which can easily end up with a 'cutout' look.
V1 is a composite of a Great White Egret flyby at Shapwick two days ago. Both shots used were taken in the same spot with a long lens, but with very different apertures - I could not have frozen the egret with a small aperture which I needed to get some decent dof in the landscape.
V2 is another composite of a group of three displaying Shovellers taken a couple of months ago at Greylake. The dof problems are similar to the first image.
V3 is a straight shot of a pair of Teal searching for a nesting site at Greylake taken very late on a very bright orange evening. Despite many Teal at Greylake in the spring I can now find no breeding pairs there. The Peregrines love them, of course, and stayed on at this site well into the spring. v4 is a shot of one of the 'regulars' at this restaurant.
Hope you like them. A

Excellent set of shots Arthur. V1 and 4 are my favourite. Both very good captures.
Am so excited just now. Between doing my C&Cs on here, continually scaring the crows off my feeders, and gawping down the garden with binos, I have just spotted a woodpecker on the house roof at the end of the garden. First time I have been aware of it near my garden ![]()
. Ah simple things amuse simple people! Moira
I particularly like these composites you produce, Arthur: they look completely natural and if you did not admit how they were obtained, then I for one would not have suspected they were not 'ordinary' photos.
And the in flight shot at V 4 is captured so crisply.
ronnie.
Excellent set, Arthur. As a confirmed landscaper I have to say the first two are excellent, the lighting is beautiful. As Ronnie says, if you hadn't let on I would not have known they were composites.
