First of all, many thanks to John (lonely_oryx) who gave yesterday's upload a GEA. My very first, and I am absolutely thrilled.
The eyes of this strange looking critter caught my attention, an ID would be much appreciated.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Being hopeless at insect ID, I'm afraid I cannot help there, Carol, but I can appreciate your capture in these two shots.
With the more vertical orientation in V 1, it looks as if it's hanging on for dear life, and as you remark, it's those green iridescent eyes that attract attention.
Ronnie.

Interesting capture and very similar to one we have here in the UK, could be a variety of horse fly.

It does look very similar to our horseflies or deer flies with those iridescent green eyes, so maybe it is a Mediterranean cousin - a donkey fly perchance! Lovely portraits.

Not my favourite creatures - especially when eating outdoors and they're after your food! However, two excellent close-ups, Carol, and it does have nice eyes... Wink
