A Close up shot of this flower. Its ideal for Macros too as it has so many little aphids.

Squarish crop giving even breathing space all around for the flower and added Vignette just for fun.

I used a slow shutter speed as it was quite calm and the movement of the flower was null.

any critique will be appreciated.

A beautiful bloom captured from a very good point of view, however I feel that the centre of the bloom is somewhat dark which in turn hides the detail within. May I suggest in future that your use a fill in flash in order to irradiate such a problem. Alternatively you make like to increase the exposure or lighten the shadowily areas slightly in that area during post production if possible.

Hello Nathan,

I agree with you, i tried using flash but that made the petals blow.

good day Ishan I think use of flash as you say would blow the flower as you are shooting in macro as Nathan says try different exposure settings uploaded a mod where I have tried to highlight the centre a bit more keep up the good work and enjoy!!

Flash wouldn't work when the camera is this close to the flower, the petals are covered in iridescent scales that reflect light. Fairly flat light is best for photographing flowers, to avoid blown highlights, but the centre of this one is quite dark and densely packed, that's the problem. Try holding a sheet of white card up to reflect light onto the flower, or better still get someone to help you with this; the effect is much subtler than flash.

As the image stands, lightening shadows and adding brightness, plus a Levels adjustment could help. Mod to follow...

Thank you for your lovely mods Graham and Moihra.

I agree that the center part is a bit dark.

Hi, Ishan, just thought I would try a plain background (see mod).
Selected the background with the Magic Wand, filled it with black, then touched up around the petal edges.

Pamela.

I agree, but recently i have been experimenting with various genres so it wasn't possible to get perfection. Smile
