Taken in Afghanistan recently. I noticed all the flags at this location were half masted and when I asked a young major about it he replied 'whenever we fly in or despatch remains we go to half mast. They dont see the mast head much these days'. He was right I only saw them 'close up' once. Just wanted to share this snap and am not looking for votes but comments welcome.

Well you won't get votes anyway, because this has been posted in the critique gallery! ![]()
This is a potentially very evocative photo and one which I appreciate is tricky to get - so well done for that. However the flags are almost incidental in the picture which is dominated by the vehicle in the foreground and, to a lesser extent, by the other one in the centre of the photo. A different shooting position may have helped you get more prominence.
As regards the image itself, it could perhaps do with a bit more contrast... it looks slightly flat. I have uploaded a mod for you in which I have used levels and curves adjustments to try and achieve this.
Hope that helps. ![]()
Thanks for sharing, Bob. The flags hold a poignant message once you know the reason for the half mast. I also feel the truck has a good link with them, and have done a modification where I cropped the image in order to place the flags as near to the top right "third" as I could, and then enhanced them so that they stood out a bit more.
Pamela.
Total respect to any one who is willing to do this for there country !
