This is the bandstand in the gardens and I was lucky, as there was a very good band there that day playing lots of golden oldies, the only blemish was the awful singer, luckily she only did a few songs. As you can see they had quite a good size audience, the elderly man and his young companion were strutting their stuff in great style!
The roof of this bandstand was red until last year, when it was changed to what you see. During renovations someone did some research and discovered that this was how it was originally, so it was decided it should go back to the original colour. I'm showing a shot from 2008 showing how it looked with the red roof.

Many thanks for your look, comments and votes on the first of this series, greatly appreciated.

Have to say I prefer the roof as it is now, Jim, a fine bandstand, obviously made good use of and enjoyed by a good audience. Well captured set of images. Carol

These images remind me the days in my youth when I would listen to bands playing in the bandstands in the Glasgow Parks, esp. Queen's Park beside which we lived. They also hosted concert parties on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and as a kid I was enthralled by these. I guess the entertainment at these latter was pretty third rate, but in those days our tastes were simple by today's standards.
You have captured the summery atmosphere very well in this set, Jim, and it's good to see that there was a reasonable audience and that folk were enjoying the experience.
Ronnie.

Wish I'd read your description first... I've been flicking between the two to see if it's the same bandstand!! Smile Another lovely set, Jim. Could while away an hour or so there quite easily.

The gardens are very beautiful, and very beautifully photographed--- years ago when we visited Halifax we went to a band concert with picnic dinner -- delightful all around experience! Thanks for the memories!
