..The distruction of the inner child

This was the image I wanted to do with Letty originally but I bottled it, as I was freightened of offending people. I know most will only see the literal image, but there is a completely different message in there.

I think it was a good idea to give us that second line (destruction of the inner child) to make the thought clear. Very thought provoking and superb execution.

I'm always in awe of your images Nick, but have to admit that I often don't see the deeper meaning. But that's just me being shallow. Your images stand out and stand alone, whether I understand them or not.

Yes, it's disconcerting, but not offensive. The skill of it prevails for me. Striking and memorable.

Not dark enough, Nick. I think if it's going to have an impact it has to actually shock. Nice enough but just a bit safe.

Deep, sinister in it's own way but profoundly brilliant.

Thanks everyone. Big thanks Rob and John for the user awards and team for the HC Smile

Keith thanks for the comments, I really value them. I did toy with making it very dark and well gruesome - but I concluded that would be the safe option. But that wasn't the message I was trying to get across. I wanted an almost cold forbodding atmosphere, almost empty, someone with a lot of baggage, regrets. The blood is not enough to signify death but to say life's blood is draining away (erratic to say chaos under a veneer of calm). I was wanting the viewer to draw conclusions - is the baby dead? was it ever actually there (is it the emptiness in her life),?did she terminate it? (Tied in with the message on the wall) What baggage (emotional and actual) is she clinging onto? is it significant where the bag is?

The shock factor I was trying to give was like in a film before an event happens, which for me is often more disturbing than the actual event. However if people view it as safe, then I've not quite got across the full message.

There is also another message in there, hinted in the tag line but ...

One final comment, when I created this image in my head (long before I pressed any shutter) I had an audience in mind..

Just seen your comment and UA Dave much appreciated Smile

probably not the intended audience for this stuff Nick - but do quite like the lighting - how you've got the cradle lit extra to the surroundings etc. looks good.

I don't "get" all the subtexts and horror you are trying to imply... I just see a lass with a case in a room with some writing on the wall and a cradle...

I think this image makes more sense with the cradle, and the faded writing on the wall. But I actually think that 'Body of Evidence' was more disturbing in a way, probably because there was no obvious link in that one between the case/writing/young woman. Having said that, this image is very thought provoking in its own right, and although it could be 'darker' emotionally, I like the cold clinical feel you've got here. Very reminiscent of innocence lost.

I wish is thought of that as the title, far more fitting

Nah, it was your title that got me thinking about the image in the first place!

"Hand that rocked the cradle" has made me think of the film. So I see the woman in the image as the nanny, perhaps taken the baby back to the hospital she lost her baby in or perhaps she was born in? Perhaps baby is in the suitcase, seeing there is blood dripping from it!
Good shot to get your imagination flowing.

Hi Nick
I think it was the model's expression that first caught my attention, apart from being very pretty Smile
Didn't see the blood until it was pointed out, was fascinated with the sign and wall colour, is it really an old hospital?
Guess people will read into the image whatever they want.
I like it, but it's my kind of thing, well done
Harry
