Taken on holiday in North Yorkshire the blue of the sky merging with the blue mediterrainian style sea evoked my sense of serenity. The curve of the harbour walls cutting into scene adding a touch of reality to a dreamlike seascape. You would never believe it was England in March would you?

Hi John,

Nice shot with good composition.

John you can make it slightly stronger and make the refections stand out a touch more if you wanted.

After you've made a copy open your levels' window and you will see the black pointer (left hand side) could do with bringing towards the middle, but only a bit. Next in your blend modes select "Overlay" which will make the light colours lighter and the dark colours darker then if you feel the effect is too much reduce the opacity.

These two adjustments are done in the mod.

Take care
Martin

Hi John, a nice image.

Like Martin says it could do with a bit more punch and I feel could do with losing some sky. Ideally the lighthouse would be further into the frame as it is a bit close to the right hand side.

In my mod I have removed some of the sky to align the horizon with the upper thirds line. I have also applied a gradient dark grey to white fill from the top of the frame to the horizon to darken the sky slightly.

Hope this helps

Hi John, nice image and as you say, the British weather. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that too much Wink I thought your sky was just washed out and had not depth at all, so I replaced it with one of mine and blended it in. I made some adjustments in camera raw in Photoshop and then selected overlay, as did Martin, then reduced opacity to 22%. I hope you like the mod and hopefully the British weather will improve for everyone, as it's 30C here, going up to 38C for Saturday!

Hi John,

This is a nice tranquil image, - love the invisible horizon.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with it as is. It can have a little more contrast, but that can also spoil the mood you were capturing. Same with adding skies that werent there, - not a bad idea, but again it changes the mood and intent. I did a mod, but a very small amount of contrast.

One point about you camera settings, - dont use the widest aperture, - stop the lens down one or two stops. You could quite easily have used f/8 with this one. GIve it a try next time.

Regards

Willie

Thanks all for your views on the shot. You are quite right Willie any more contrast would have spoilt the mood of the picture (I did experiment with various settings in elements 9 before deciding on the finished product). Thanks again for taking the time to give your opinions and for those extra little tweaks to give a more interesting result.

John.
