Hi Kevin,

Theres elements of a good composition here, but Im not certail if they rae al in the right place at the right time.

I like how the rain drops on the water have been captured, and the tree making a frame is nice, - but is not really framing anything other than the bright part of the lake.

the ducks are a nice touch, but their porition, and the trunk of the tree dividing the shot really suggests a crop, - and in my mod, moving the ducks over to the right.

I looked at a crop to retain the ducks in their original position, but it ends up with the tree in the middle, - and doesnt look great.


I dont think a flash would do a lot for you. You can always pop up the one on the camera, and it will act as a fill flash (you might have to ne in Aperture priority or shutter, - not certain about M mode on a Nikon), this would illuminate some of the foreground, but if you want to lift the shadows, you need to do it in post processing. I personally like the almost silhouette effect, however, I did increase shadow detail in the mod, and also extended the grass at the bottom down to fill the frame, as the mucky path becomes clear when shadows are lightened.


Anyway, - hope this is of some help. If you are at all gamiliar with Photoshop, - to move the ducks, lassoo them, the copy and paste them, then use the move tool to locate them where you want. is you then use a layer mask, you can clean up some of the background around the ducks,
