This is my first upload in a while. Not been able to shoot for some time now, but a good friend of mine from work agreed to model for me this weekend. We decided to go to Hatfield Forest to catch the best of the lovely light and she fancied doing some shots outdoors. This also gave me a chance to try and bit more off camera flash work. Got some, what I think, really nice shots of her from this shoot. I will be posting a few up here. Would love your feedback on all of these shots coming up as I KNOW I have made some big mistakes on them, but wonder what you feel. Some of the skin tones were difficult to balance with the flash and the sun as I didn't have any gels to correct the colour temp, my photoshop skills aren't good enough to compensate! But my friend has done some modelling before (she has that "look"...wouldn't think she was a scientist like myself would you?!). She was nearly signed up to a top modelling agency when she first moved over to this country 3 years ago (she is Polish) but decided against it as didn't like the life and idea. So, for me, my job was quite easy....she did all the good stuff herself! Makes life easy working with someone who knows what to do, not that my previous models haven't been brillian.....

I like this one as a starting image as its simple, nicely exposed and shows her off well I feel. But, as usual, comments and constructive criticism always welcome! Hope you like

i like this mate. Exposure is good, like the relaxed pose of the model and the angle. I would be very happy with this if it were mine. Top job

About time John Smile.
I think this Is a cracking start to your new lot of Images. Love her expression, nicely exposed, sharp, good tones and i like the detail in the grass & tree. Very nice looking model as well and even better that she was great to work with.
Another one of you brainy bunch then Wink.

lol! Thanks Jon! Appreciated! I wouldn't say we are brainy.....just we aren't very good at what other people do...lol! Wink Yeah, she is very pretty...you can see why she was nearly signed up for modelling. Slim, pretty in a classic model look, excellent skin....just nigh on bang on for what they want really. She was relaxed....we were messing about towards the end of the shoot for this one and she and I were really into it by this point. The detail I am happy with as it was only with the kit lens for my camera as I am useless at manual focus with the lens I wanted to use! lol!
Thanks again Jon, appreciated

Hi Focus Man

I don't have any of this pose and angle with the tree level, but I like the angle and wouldn't want to change it. I tried levelling up in camera and it just looked boring really. Pluse there was too much outside of the frame to level up correctly and compose nicely, so had to do something a bit different. But thanks for your feedback....I guess not everyone will like it Smile

I for one like this a lot. The lighting on her really stands her out from the remainder of the image. The reflection of the flash on her jacket is a bit distracting but that can easily be altered, should you wish to do so. I like the jaunty angle and the look on her face. Nice to see you posting.

Thanks Dave. Appreciated. I also didn't like the reflection on the jacket too much, but when I tried to change it, I just ended up messing it up! lol! So left it. Also, when I thought about it, if the light is there, why wouldn't it reflect? I am warming to it... Smile
I like the angle too and the look on her face was her having fun by this point. We just tried everything to see what would work....I think this one did...Cheers again and will be posting more tomorrow! Smile

hay John, it's great to see you posting again, i am sure this will be a very beautiful series i am lookinf forward to see them all Smile
there are so many things i like about this photo, I think the light is very well acheived, a strong flash on the bottom left but not so strong on her face, which is so beautiful and her expression realy makes the picture so dreamy, i also realy realy like the pose in that location, it seems almost she is coming from the roots of the tree, also if the picture was straight i don't think it would have the same impact.
maybe someone could find the pattern on her t-shirt a little distracting, but "personaly" i like these little "imperfections" in a photo, it makes it feel more real for me, don't know if i can explain well, but some pictures are so perfect that they seem sterile? to me.
well after all these words i could just have said that i like it very much and again she is so beautiful, very very well done
Paola

Hey Paola!

Good to see you back! Nice to hear from you and thank you so much for the comments on this image! I am glad you like it and nice to know you see things in it that were meant to be seen. I agree with you on the pose, she does look like she is part of the tree and I also think the pattern on the t-shirt IS distracting, but I only really noticed it on the big screen instead of the rear screen. She is a very attractive lady and she was very easy to work with as she knew how to pose and what to do, what expressions to make and how to get the best out of her picture. So my job was quite easy! I am not entirely sure about the light as it was a little off direction by accident, but it does make her face a little softer I guess, so a happy accident all the same!

Tahnk you again Paola, really appreciated and look forward to seeing more uploads from you soon! Hope so!

Hey John,

Good opening shot from your shoot. Looking forward to seeing the others.

You have captured the model and mood well and the image is well framed. In terms of composition I agree with one of the comments above about the angle of the tree. But that is subjective.

Thanks Matt. Yeah, I guess the tree angle is a matter of personal taste. I quite like it, but then it was also put upon me through circumstances, so swings and roundabouts. I will post another later, but thanks for the comment Matt, appreciated and glad you like!
