Excellent capture but it seems to me the full picture would look better.

Welcome to EPZ Andrew. What a fortunate shot, - some people can spend years trying for one like this!

Its good overall; the fish is nicely sharp, the bird a little less sharp. One thing to note is, when you re size an image for the web, you need to open the newly re sized image, check it for sharpness, and sharpen as needed, - re sizing can cause loss of sharpness.

Ive sharpened the mods, - see than under the modifications tab above. Ive also adjusted contrast, and added a small catchlight to the Herons eye. The first mod is the original image, and the second is a tighter crop, using the Rule of Thirds (Google this) and it focuses attention on the head and the fish. This looks after the desire above to see the whole bird, as it implies you deliberately intended to frame the shot as shown.

Hope this helps, and enjoy the site.

regards

Willie

I think this is excellent in more ways than one. A good close detailed shot, a fish in the heron's mouth and, as Willie says, an image that some would love to capture, certainly one to be proud of.
We are all different in our opinions, and I have to say that personally I like the closeup, concentrating on the heron's head and the captured fish. Your background is natural, not too fussy, and there's nothing in it that distracts from your subject. I like the way the beak runs on the diagonal, and the fact that you have left space in front of the heron, a good composition.
Pamela.
