Original shot is a beauty. I think high key often works best in mono, - and youve got one here. Its a good effort, byt perhaps has losu a little too much detail.
Ive uploaded a mono mod, and heres the link to the tutorial I used. its the second technique: http://www.ephotozine.com/article/black---white-high-key-effects-in-photoshop-49...
Worth a try, - I had a lot of fun with this great shot, and thanks for loading the original, great idea.
regards
Willie

Thanks for the mods Willie, excellent, as always.
I did look at the EPZ tutorial before I started, but as I wasn't originally going for the mono option I actually used a method I picked up from Utube. I'm fairly happy with the way the portrait turned out, but not with the BG. I made a mistake by trying to remove the original BG (living room curtains) and replacing them with a plain white BG. Having seen your mods the picture would have been much better if I'd have left the original bg in.
I also think it could be improved by a little dodging of the pupils, they're a bit too black.
I have another shot of my Grandson which I am going to give the same treatment (got to do them both or I'll be in bother with my better half), so I'll take your advice and try the EPZ method for the mono version,
Thanks again Willie,
Alan
V3 for me Alan and I like v2 B/w always looks good reminds me of days passed when I spent many hours in the darkroom.
