hello and welcome to epz.

good shot taken with a super compact. just gos to show that for straightforward subjects you dont need a dslr to get a result. the sharpness and exposure is just fine.

compositionally its a bit static with the mouth low in the water, a nice snapping of the jaws would be good and splashy, but i like the bit of a diagonal agle on the head.

i think it could maybe do with a little cropping from the top but otherwise its a good effort.

look forward to seeing more of your work on epz

regards
Phil

I would prefer to see a tighter crop at the top, just above his right ear and a little more space added to the left. (re the top, use the scroll bar on this page to see what I mean)

I am unsure about your camera's minimum aperture but the elns just might perform better at f11. (I am not saying there is anything wrong in that regard, it is generally a fact though).

A very good picture.

Not sure if the g3 is a compact, CSC or mirrorless DSLR. Doesn't matter much. Nice image tightly cropped as it should be giving good impact. Could crop even tighter but a good effort. Like it.

A good rule is 'fill the frame' and you have.

Hello, Phyllis, and welcome to the site.
You ask if more of the hippo should have been included, and my answer would be No, it's a fine close and detailed shot, and I like the angle of the hippo's head.
The composition is ok. If, however, you have cropped this from a larger image, try leaving a little more water on the left, to give the hippo a bit more room to move into.
Pamela.

Welcome. Nice shot. Ive cropped some space from the bottom, thats simialr to having more Hippo at the top, and Ive also brightened a little, it in my mod, - scroll up to the modifications tab.

Excellent detail, sharp, and good tone.

Enjoy the site.
