Thicker ice in the prolonged sub-zero spell up here let me get further out on the ice to use new FG interest. Shot using the camera's daylight colour temperature setting for a colder feel (appropriate to the overnight -12C and still -5C as I shot). Usually I use the cloudy setting but on this occasion it didn't work as well with the snowy branch. The branch has been there all year but I was never able to make it work in an image until it iced over. It reminds me of an antler.

I like the slight hint of warmth in the sky to balance the coldness. I'm impressed you've found and used the WB button!![]()
... works well. The antler analogy is spot on and gives a strong lead in, and the snow speckles are the icing on the cake
. Excellent image, Al.

nice shot, but you don't need to play with the WB button you are using RAW .
The shapes around your 'antler' are very interesting. A fine composition in fine frosty tones.
Thanks Dave, Colin and Annette ![]()

And thanks for the critique!

Although I shoot RAW for quality and flexibility Colin, I prefer to try things on camera at the time to see what looks better. I find I feel more rewarded the more I get right on camera (and the less time I have to spend editing on the PC!). ![]()
Marvellous find and the dedication tobe out in this weather. Any space around this wonderful frozen branch would help I feel Al.

I love this one - just came across it now, months after your upload and it's immediately a stunner with me. Well done. Ronnie wasn't the only one to notice the head and arms around the branch. I too find the ice around the branch (on the water) to form a sort of head (in the distance) and arms running downwards and curving over the "hip" area. Might be my imagination at work here though, which only proves just how good an image this is. Would have given it my UA if I could. Love it.
