Hunting Pack

With the dark days of 1917 behind them the RFC had gained some measure of air superiority by 1918 and took the fight to the German air arm in a much more aggressive manner. The memory of poor tactics and poor equipment that led to the loss of 245 RFC pilots in ‘Bloody April’ in exchange for some 66 German aircrew had caused a radical rethink of tactical employment by 1918. The fighter sections learned to fly a loose four formation, all pilots able to search and operate independently, and soon the hunted became the hunter. The tables were well and truly turned.

Unfortunately the RAF forgot all the hard earned lessons of 1917 and had to throught the same learning process all over again in 1940.

Doesn't look a too comfortable position for our man, Pat, with three bearing in on him! Another of your very fine composite images, and once again made that more interesting with your accompanying narrative.
Fine work as ever.
Ronnie.
