Hi everyone!

I've had a very busy day today! It started at about 8.30 this morning (after having gone to bed at 1.30 last night!) I now finally have Photoshop CS4 ! Then I also bought Photomatix, and was ready to try out this NEW technique Grin

I first took it in my bedroom on a table, with lots of sellotaped paper surrounding it. I think took 7 shots at 0.7 increments of exposure, starting at +3 and ending at -3. I then merged into HDR on photomatix and tonemapped too. Then, I added a texture, downloaded from EPZ, onto the new CS4 program, fiddled a little bit and then did a layer mask to paint a little bit of texture off the flower at a 28% opacity.

I've posted the non-texture one too, just to see which one you prefer. Then, for the first time ever I decided to resize for the web!

I hope you like it, thanks for looking Grin It took the whole day!

THANKS TO PETE FOR THE TEXTURE

Jonah

Oooh! Now this is nice! Well worth all your hard work. The subject matter is perfect for this kind of manipulation. Definitely one for the wall!! Grin

Hi Jonah,I'm so pleased to have been such an inspiration to you,you sound as though you were determined to get started & it took you the whole day !!....takes me that long too but sshhh don't tell anyone Wink
Your technique is good & you have great subject matter.. but just watch your settings in Photomatix as you can get halos around your subject,I see them just creeping in here & they are a touch more prominent on the textured image.Be careful with the patch tool too ( if you have used it) it does leave traces of colour from close by objects,I see a couple on the original, close to the flower heads.
I like the texture you have used, looks great, especailly on the bottom of the pot where you have left a good 'landing spot' so it's not just floating in space.Choose your textures carefully so they match the subjects & don't be afraid to use more than one with different blending modes.
Well done,an excellent first attempt & your JA is well deserved,I look forward to seeing more.
Janet xx

Thanks very much for your help Janet, how can I remove these halos after having put the texture in? You see, when I do the tone mapping, obviously there is a white BG, so I cannot see any white halos.

You can see the halos on the original Jonah, once the texture layer is on there then if you use a aoft brush to remove it from the flower heads it will bleed a little & remove some of the texture close to the flowers...use a harder brush to remove on your masking layer.
PM me your Photomatix settings & I will take a look.

hmm, really like both. The textured one has more immediate appeal mainly due to the depth of colour. However, I like the more delicate tones of the other version. Really worth the effort as both are good images.
