Taken whilst on a short break to amsterdam with uni field trip. Saw an image like this one time, and felt it was striking and powerful, so thought i would have a go myself.
I feel the image captures the culture of amsterdam within the photograph.
I have manipulated this in photoshop just to desaturate the background, then tweaking the contrast and brightness to make the foreground element stand out more.
Had considered highlighting all the red colouring in the background as it was in the red light district this was taken. However, felt it distracted too much from the foreground.
Hope you Like.

Hello Dean
I really like this, its very striking, and its such an iconic amsterdam image. I like the composition too, how central it is.. breaking the rule of thirds beautifully. Am I right in thinking orange bikes are kind of communal? or is that another colour? (or am I just talking nonsense?)
Vik
As Vic says - you have created an iconic Amsterdam image here and the B&W background with the colour in the bike frame sets it off brilliantly. I would like to have seen the cycle on the LH 3rd leading into the frame. Gets my vote tho.
Firstly, thanks for the comments
Vik:
Im not sure about communal, however, there were a number of places that rented bikes out, these were always one colour depending on which one you went to they seemed to be primarily orange or red. So not non-sense. Unfortunately, i did not have time to rent a bike out, but it is a lovely city.
Colin:
I too thought that would be a nice shot, positioning myself so that the bike was more to the left and shoot from a slightly different angle, however, i couldn't catch it without people walking past it was quite busy...also some places in the red light district don't really look kindly on people shooting with slr's...if ya get my meaning.
But hey with the amount of bikes in amsterdam i was lucky to find one in the centre of a bridge, on its own and orange! so i felt i had hit the jackpot.
Thanks,
Dean
