A decent enough capture but it does not really jump out at you, so to speak, because of the lack of contrasting colours. Also there is some digital noise visible. I have uploaded a mod for you in which I have done the following:

(1) Crop the photo so that the subject is not quite so central.
(2) Reduced the blue colour cast.
(3) Darkened the background - this largely gets rid of the visble noise and also makes the icicle stand out.
(4) Increased contrast by means of a curves adjustment.
(5) Sharpened slightly.

Hope that helps.

The mod is an absolute must. Your attempt is good and the basic image has all the qualities to be a success as th mod shows.

Always remember that few images are perfect out of the camera and, pre-digital, a lot of work was done in the darkroom. Only colour transparencies had to be spot on out of the camera.

A bit of though and a few minutes in the digital darkroom, as here, changes good into excellent.

Another good one with ice, if you can, is to get it backlit, either with natural light or flash on an extension lead.
