Pagan Grove at Holker Hall Gardens, Cark-in-Cartmel, Nr Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria – to mark Imbolc (2nd February).
Also called Oimelc, Imbolc in the Celtic pagan calendar celebrates the awakening of the land, the growing power of the Sun and the life force of nature awakening through the darkness. In the Christian calendar, the 2nd February is celebrated as Candlemas, and it is said:
If Candlemas Day be fair and bright
Winter will have another fight
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain
Winter won't come again.
Thanks for all the C&Cs on 'Old Ironsides'.
