Pagan Grove at Holker Hall Gardens, Cark-in-Cartmel, Nr Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria to mark Imbolc (2nd February).

Also called Oimelc, Imbolc in the Celtic pagan calendar celebrates the awakening of the land, the growing power of the Sun and the life force of nature awakening through the darkness. In the Christian calendar, the 2nd February is celebrated as Candlemas, and it is said:

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright
Winter will have another fight
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain
Winter won't come again.

Thanks for all the C&Cs on 'Old Ironsides'.

Best wishes,
Philip

I like the write up and the image as a herald of spring and I also like the framing.

OK you've just ruined 2nd February for me with that prediction!! Tongue Glorious sunshine, frosty and bitterly cold so guess it's more winter ahead. Lovely image. Like the shapes in those branches.

Great composition of this exceptionally interesting image - it is indeed very bright here today and I have just read snow is forecasted again for next week - they knew what they were talking about!

The light vignette adds to the mystery. Effective.

Thanks for this, to day here it is cloudy, but could not rain as it is way too cold, snow is likely later on--- That is good news-- spring must be around the coner!

The first festival of spring, of dreams and the waking of the earth.
Light is noticeably growing now. We can observe the signs that Spring is on its way.
We see new shoots appearing from bulbs and perhaps a swelling in the buds on trees and shrubs.
A time of beginnings. I time to begin new plans and ventures and to start to implement them.
