Now I had some fun with this, I tell you. It took me about 2 hours to take the shots and about half an hour in photoshop. It is not perfect and I know that, I just wanted to do something different and a bit of an experiment. I think I succeeded to fulfill both of these. I decided to use the chair because it just seemed a fairly easy subject to move for a first attempt. I am nearly blind now though, as I used the built in flash on the camera and my dedicated flash handheld, pressing the test button to fire it, all this in a dark room. I was seeing spots for about 10 minutes.
This image is made up of 8 images all messed about with in layers on photoshop. The main problem I found is trying to get the opacity of each layer right as they are all different. I don't think I am to far away.
Anyway I hope you like it and if you do have any tips I would be very pleased to hear them.

Very interesting experiment and impressive image, Andy. I like the fact that you've worked on the adjusting lever as well as the chair back. Your intro gives the impression that you worked by trial and error, though I'm sure that wasn't really the case.

I have no experience of taking this sort of shot, and precious little of using layers, but I guess you'd have to do some pencil-and-paper planning of the angles either side of head-on for your individual shots and probably work with the chair fixed rigidly rather than free to rotate, otherwise it will move more than you want. And be grateful you're using digital rather than film, so you don't have to wait a week before seing the results of your experiments!
Regards
Bill

I leave the techie stuff to Bill. This looks alarmingly like the chair I'm sitting in at the moment. It has a worrying tendency to scoot off on its own initiative (casters on a hard floor), and this shot could boost its ego to levels that I'd rather not think about. Could you please go back to flowers and bugs asap??
Yours respectfully, Mrs W

I wouldn't know where to start, so I think this is pretty brilliant! Using 'multiply' in layers work in combi with opacity helps, I find, but I think it's a case of trial and error, sometimes.

I wouldn't dare to spin round on my chair at work like this - it would just fall over sideways. A novel idea, like the mono.
