A full-frame,uncropped and composed in camera, capture of the juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), who is a frequent visitor to our garden. The red cap covering the head, common to all GSW juveniles,is beginning to recede. Males retain a red patch at the nape of the neck, whilst females do not. I will have to wait until after the first full moult to see whether this youngster is male or female.

Really pleased for you in getting it on a great perch with a superb neutral bg Sylvia. Detail and exposure is first class as is the turn of head and eye. Very worthy of the awards and more. We'll have to start calling you the 'Queen of Wildlife Photography'
