Its a solid shot, though with his deep facial characteristics one wonders if a toned BW would enhance his profile. That's not so much a critique, more of a preference on my part. My only suggestion overall would be that the crop could be a bit tighter, again more of a personal preference not a critique.

Super candid John. The only thing I would suggest is a bit of brightening and an increase in mid-tone contrast. I've uploaded a mod which I hope you will find helpful.

No retouching required. Just adjusting the levels a bit. I would bring a little more contrast into the shot too.

May I say another super image which shows a whole lifetime in a face. I have played a little with the shadows and highlights to bring out every single wrinkle on that wonderful face.

That face certainly tells a story, - had to join the mod squad and add a couple. Mostly contrast and sharpness work, - crop, - and a monotone.
