While tidying up the garden I found this little fellow, rushed inside to get my camera, then spent hours trying to find him again, so great was his camouflage!! He was very very small! You might like to look at the large version of this to see him!

I was able to use a comparatively slow shutterspeed as he must have been holding his breath!

Not sure if the closer up shot, ie V2 is better?

Thank you for looking and really appreciate any comments. Ann.

You could so easily have trodden on him so well camouflaged he is amongst that leaf litter, but instead you found him and captured him: V 2 is good for close-in detail but V 1 shows the better how he blends in with the surrounding colours.........so 1/2 vote to each.
Ronnie.

I like the close up in V2, but like Ronnie I think V1 shows him better blending into his surroundings so I think V1 takes it for me. Both excellent shots though, lovely focus on the eye Grin

Great capture and photos, Ann. Some people find toads somehow ugly or repulsive. I did a group of toad photos that I uploaded a few days ago. I love yours. He(she?) does have lovely eyes. There is a story that the skin on some toads is psychoactive, and here is a story from All Things Considered on NPR, a driveway moment, as it turned out, and one of the funniest things I have ever heard on the radio, about a dog who becomes addicted to sucking on toads.....

Worth a listen and laugh.

I am so pleased that so many people have recognised the importance of this toad's camouflage.

It is not so much of an image of a toad, as of a wild animal in its natural enviornment. I was privileged to be lying on my stomach facing a tiny toad, so afraid that he kept so still, and I tried to keep equally still, so as not to break the magic of the moment.

Nature photography is what this is all about. Humans are always going to be the winners if they obey the rules.

Thsank you for looking,
Ann.
