An exercise in using multiple off-camera flash - and getting fingers so cold they hurt! Can you guess the number of flash guns used and where they were?
I had been on a course to learn to use flash, although we took nothing quite like this. The aim here is to capture snow falling, 'getting the shadows right', and using the red car to make for a real punchy subject in an otherwise cold and arguably lifeless scene. I was outside for close on an hour adjusting the position of the flash guns (think there's a hint there
), all outputs were set manually. Needless to say, one lesson learnt is, 'it takes time!' to get it right. I've an indoor still-life shot to put up in the next day or too, similar exercise.
Apologies as this is one from last year, but topical all the same.
