‘It’s what friends are for’
Lonely, and probably slightly lost, a damaged B17 struggles to make home base as the light rapidly fades. Joined by two ‘little friends’ for moral and combat support all three are committed to night landings - not something to be treated lightly in those early days of flying. A scenario repeated many times as the US 8th Air Force cranked up it’s operations in 1944.
Composite, in deliberately muted light conditions, constructed from airshow photographs and archive background.
