An ancient stone spiral stairway where the steps are supported externally rather than by a central column. Perhap because that way there is light or because the shaft acts as a venilation shaft.
Or maybe the builders knew of no other way to build the steps.

A fascinating shot - and well composed. The detail isn't the best on the steps, so a little more contrast may help there- I find the external details at the bottom [glass and ? on the right] somewhat distracting, but I think if they were cloned out it could be a really good shot.

I do like the crop in v4 and the different treatment brings another way of looking at the spiral- along with hanging my head on one side to compare it -
