Beautiful portrait, but then again children make the most wonderful subjects. You have listed this as a modification, but I see no reason to modify it. Just looked at your PF and you have some wonderful portraits there.

Its been a while Tracey, youve forgotten that selecting Critique disables voting!

Gorgeous shot, very sympathetic to the subject. Square crop work great. It like good as it is. A personal preference would be for it to have a slightly higher contrast, so it look less flat, and Ive uploaded a mod to show what I mean.

Well done,

regards

Willie

Very nice indeed with first rate composition. Just needs to be a touch darker. Willie suggests more contrast and that would increase impact, but watch that highlight on the nose then!

Thanks Guys for your comments and feedback, it's much appreciated as its the best way to learn and improve.

Thanks Willie, yes it's been a while hasn't it, I've promised myself to get more involved again, plus I need your valuable feedback. I agree with you and Paul about increasing the contract slightly.

Best Wishes Wink

The eyes have it, as always in portraits. Contrast looks fine on my monitor, but I do find the background defocusing a little distracting. Have you softened it in Photoshop? If so, maybe a little too much, if not then perhaps darkening it more would help.

The focus on the eyes is perfect, they convey a clear, calm view of the world and maturity beyond his years. As it stands the rest of the face is a little bit flat - I agree that a little more contrast helps, gives a more rounded feel. I would also like to lighten the background a little bit.

Mod uploaded. I darkened highlights by 5% then made a Levels adjustment to bring a bit more contrast into the face, to give a more rounded effect. Then I used the Burn tool (shadows, 2% exposure, large brush) over the face, to define detail. Then I isolated the background, lightened it and added more contrast there. I think that gives a more luminous effect.
