I saw this vase at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art (in Elmhurst Illinois). It was carved from one block of jadeite. It is about 12 inches in diameter and I don't know if it is Ming or Qing dynasty but somewhere between 1368 to 1912. I am always amazed at the intricacy of these items, especially how they can carve rings (or often chains) from one block of stone.

It takes several years to carve Jade to this standard, in the Quin dynasty it was done with a Bamboo stick and abrasive paste, today it is done with Diamonds, jade is being repurchased by the Chinese and was always considered precious-es, a very nice dragon bowl, and a quality photo also, regards Leon.![]()
