Japanese White Pine, the small one. Just 14" in height and liftable with one hand for a change. Taken inside in my workshop, using my new blackout blind for the backdrop.
This JWP is grafted onto a Black Pine trunk to create much smaller needles. Around 40 years old, I have owned and maintained for the last 27 of them. Needles are naturally a blue/green colour. Pot is a handmade English example in a semi sheen finish (expensive one). I used an aperture of f/9 with speed set by the camera.
Lighting was two anglepoise lamps placed to prevent shadows. Subject was pulled about a metre in front of backdrop to make the background darker.
I hope you think my photography is going the right way ... fingers and toes crossed.

Great shot.... I saw these at the Harrogate flower show and really I can see an addiction with them
Thank you very much all. It is still not right, but at least I am going the right way. I need to study more on lighting, placement and shooting angles.

It certainly is.
As for studying more; I don't think we ever stop.
Well done,
Jester.

Thank you Jester, that means a heck of a lot to get praise from my peers. I consider myself a complete novice but am so enthusiastic, I really enjoy looking for ideas and trying them out. I took some today of a blood red Acer bush but it just didn't cut the mustard when I looked at them on the PC. I now need to work out why![]()
Being retired does at least give me time to learn (I retired early at 55)
Thank you again.
