Whilst my wife was having an extended retail experience in Llandudno today, I drove to the front to sit in the sun until she telephoned me to tell me either she was ready or she had emptied our bank account. Don't know which one it was yet - anyway as I sat there this 'jet thing' was taking holiday-makers on short round trips. I had to do something so out came the camera.

If you are not used to this type of shooting then this isn't a bad effort.

I would have opened the aperture a bit wider as this would have not only have given you a faster shutter speed (thus freezing the action a bit more), but allowed a more limited depth of focus which would have helped focus attention on the boat.

It would also have been slightly better to have the boat a little further into the frame. It feels too close to the right hand edge.

As a personal preference I would have applied a little more contrast and added a slight darkening vignette.

Hi Frank,
A pretty good result as a grab shot and at the lens's extreme at that.
Hope you don't mind but I've carried out a small experiment with this.
I've uploaded a mod., not because I've done anything that you can't do youself but because I want to see how my handiwork fares after being uploaded.
For what it's worth, I applied "auto levels" and "auto colour" faded to 45%, then lots of sharpening. I'm expecting the sharpening to drop off somewhat in the uploaded version.
I don't know if you've noticed but there have been a few questions asked lately re. the mods. losing some quality in the upload and ending up looking nowhere near as good as they did on someone's machine. One theory is that the resizing is causing the problems so I've resized this already.

Let's see . . .

. . . It's not bad. The colour looks about the same but the sharpening has definitely become sotfened.
I deliberately sharpened it to the limit and it's lost its edge.

Thanks Frank,
I knew you wouldn't mind!
As for the sharpening, although it looks OK(ish) in the mod, the version I had in PS was deliberately sharpened to the point of being too sharp.
As an experiment it's worked though as I now have a better idea of what I need to do on here to make it look right on there!

All I would do is crop some off the top and create a semi letterbox. The boat needs to be to the right - more room in front than behind is correct. doesn't matter if the jet boat is on the middle line for this type of shot.
