Their shock is palpable.
As BarabaraR mentioned yesterday, the sculpture spent some time on Holy Island, near the church, before being moved to Durham. I preferred the previous location in many ways, but the present arrangement is much more challenging, a real confrontation of two different cultures.
Look out for the gentleman wandering into V2, he reappears tomorrow.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Prefer V2 and the lower angle, look forward to seeing the chap tomorrow.
Thanks early birds. V1 leads because for me it's more about the monks' surprise, I wanted to move out to the surroundings gradually.

Terry, the block is St Cuthbert in his open coffin. The challenge I still haven't sorted is getting a shot of his profile, it's too high. But we have just invested in a small step-ladder for photographic purposes...
Thanks folks,
Moira
A very powerful sculpture and your angle makes it more so. I'm wondering what tomorrow will bring?

Quote: I find that statues like these lose some of their meaning when plonked in city centres. I think they'd be more comfortable in beautifully rural surroundings, but it adds to their angst being relocated to the concrete jungle.
I couldn't agree more.
I shall look forward to seeing you up the steps peering in ![]()

I've been looking forward to today's offering and I'm not disappointed!
Cannot wait to see what happens with the "wanderer" now!

Thanks again. I should add that the precinct is on the approach to the peninsula (formed by a loop in the River Wear), where the monks finally settled, built their Cathedral and buried their Saint. There is a logic...

Great shots, Moira - think I'd be a bit dazed after a century of wandering...
Has to be V1 for me ![]()

Well v2 for me I think you can see it better and with more to see it works better IMO, good angles on both Moira.

Two great view points Moira, with the closeness of V1 being my fav'.
